I was up and out the door fairly early this morning and ran three miles on the beach. The weather was nearly perfect and I got to witness a couple pods of dolphins swimming parallel to me for a good part of the journey. When I reached Bean Point, I was surprised to see my sister-in-law up there gathering shells for her Kindergarten class. I think her class may be in for doing a unit on the beach. The miles I ran were a bit hard fought, but I powered through. I think running on the beach requires a skill set that I’m still developing. Plus it’s not like key lime pie and mojitos are premium running fuel. We did enjoy the redfish and trout that we caught yesterday for dinner - we blackened them and served them with rice and a salad. It was delicious.
I’m reflecting on this week and thinking about how fortunate we are to have been here twice this year. It’s easy to take things for granted and I’m grateful that I have had the opportunity to spend this much time at the beach in 2013. When I was running the GO! St. Louis half marathon, I kept thinking of relaxing on the beach and I swear it shaved time off my run. This trip was especially nice and will hold special memories for me that should help sustain me until the next trip. For now, we shall enjoy our final day at the beach. TGIF to you.
